Luis Suarez versus Liverpool..

Luis Suarez addresses Liverpool fans on Instagram after Barcelona friendly

Published 8 Comments

Luis Suarez’s long awaited Liverpool reunion probably didn’t pan out as he would have expected.

In one of the most eyebrow raising pre-season clashes this summer, the Reds romped Barcelona 4-0 at Wembley. It proved a prominent statement of intent from Jurgen Klopp’s men ahead of next season.

However, albeit the shock thrashing, Suarez served to maintain his special relationship with the Liverpool supporters. In fact, this has been exemplified by the Uruguayan’s recent and touching Instagram post.

Demolition job

Liverpool caused a stir this weekend with a 4-0 destruction of Barcelona at Wembley. Despite both Lionel Messi and Suarez being fielded, the Spanish champions proved ultimately inferior on the day.

Summer signing Sadio Mane bagged his first goal for Liverpool with the opening strike before Javier Mascherano scrambled the ball into his own net.

In addition, strikes from Divock Origi and Marko Grujic completed the rout late in the fixture.

Suarez reception

Nonetheless, one of the stories of the game proved the reception Suarez received from the Liverpool fans.

Despite the 29-year-old leaving Anfield two years ago, his old side’s fans haven’t held it against them. In fact, it was apparent that both parties maintained a strong mutual respect for one another.

Suarez’s post-match Instagram post acknowledged this and can be seen below:

The Uruguayan was keen to thank supporters for the ‘warmth’ they granted him at the match as well as wishing them the best in 2015-16.

He may have bitten Branislav Ivanovic and been banned for racist comments, but Suarez remains a fan’s favourite in the KOP. Besides, 82 goals in 133 outings on Merseyside speaks for itself.
