Preston have eased their defensive crisis by signing Jay McEveley on an emergency one-month loan deal from Derby.

North End are without recognised left-backs Callum Davidson and Michael Hart through suspension and injury respectively for Tuesday's home clash with Swansea.

Deepdale boss Alan Irvine said: "It's fantastic that we've been able to get a player of Jay's quality in at such short notice."

He continued: "Jay is relatively young but he already has plenty of experience both in getting promotion from the Championship and he has played plenty of football in the Premiership.

"We know how difficult it is to get quality players in on loan so we are delighted that Derby manager Paul Jewell allowed him to come to Preston."
