Massachusetts-born Aly Raisman raised the roof at the Rio Olympic Centre on Sunday evening, but it seemed as though her parents were about to go through it during her uneven bars performance.
Lynn and Rick Raisman watched on from an elevated position on what seemed to be an invisible rodeo bull as the couple swayed from side to side and forwards and backwards, whilst the mother repeatedly squeezed the hand of her husband for assurance.
None the less, despite their anguish, Raisman performed to perfection, much to the eventual relief of Lynn and Rick, who quickly stood to their feet to applaud Aly's performance, as well as being able to recapture their breath. You can watch the video below.
The couple are well known to the media for their swaying showcase, not to dissimilar from the sort of movement of their 22-year-old daughter makes on the bars downstairs.
They were seen reacting in a similar manner back in 2012 at the London Olympics. And we could be in for more of the same tonight when she competes in the women's team all-round final at 20:00.
Tonight will be Team USA's first opportunity to claim a medal in the gymnasium as they hope to do some catching up with Japan (1 gold), Russia (1 silver) and China (1 bronze).
Should the US claim gold, it will be their sixth of the games, and will give them another boost in their lead at the top of the medal table.
If there was an Olympic sport for parent reactions, Lynn and Rick would be joining Aly on the medal podium.
