A lot has been made of the WWE’s decision to make the returning Cruiserweight division exclusive to Monday Night Raw, especially since it became synonymous with the blue brand once WCW had shut its doors.
Fans are still slating the decision, and you can understand some of the frustrations as already, SmackDown Live feels like the second-grade show with Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley making the blockbuster announcements.
ANOTHER NEW CHAMPIONSHIP
Despite Daniel Bryan revealing that SmackDown will eventually be introducing new Women’s and Tag Team titles, Raw is clearly in the driver’s seat as it’s been revealed that a new championship will be created for the division.

WrestlingInc.com are reporting that a new championship has been commissioned and confirmed, alongside the brand new WWE Universal Championship that Finn Balor and Seth Rollins will be competing for at SummerSlam.
As of this writing, no design has been leaked online, and it looks unlikely that the WWE will be bringing back the championship they used previously.
This news has drawn even more focus to the incredible Cruiserweight Classic, as it was revealed that the finalists of the tournament would be receiving special medallions for reaching the final.
However, many expect to the Cruiserweight Classic to end with the winner being crowned the Cruiserweight Champion before moving on to the main roster.
Right now it’s unclear how many of the contestants have signed a WWE deal, as conflicting reports suggest the WWE are still chasing up some big names.
Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are pretty much contracted performers now. However, it’s unclear whether they’ll be a part of the Cruiserweight division on Raw, or part of the NXT roster.
The advantage Raw has is that they have a wider variety of main roster stars they can use in the Cruiserweight division, such as Kalisto and Neville, so expect them to play a big role.
