Arsenal fans are in desperate need of some good news after their 4-3 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.
The final whistle at the Emirates was met by boos after Arsene Wenger’s side lost their opening Premier League match for the third time in four years.
In fact, the boos were ringing out long before the full-time whistle after the away side went 4-1 up on the 63rd minute through Sadio Mane’s fine individual strike.

Luckily though for Wenger, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled a goal back within seconds, meaning those jeers were immediately silenced.
But nothing could save the French boss from criticism after the defeat, with many pointing the finger at him for his lack of activity in the transfer window. Granit Xhaka is the only high-profile signing of the summer as Gooners have had to watch their Premier League rivals splash the cash.
There’s very little doubt that the north London club need a couple more additions before the window slams shut at the end of August, especially in defence.
Per Mertesacker has been ruled out until the new year while Gabriel is also injured for up to six weeks. With Laurent Koscielny absent due to his excursions at Euro 2016, it meant there was a centre-back pairing of Rob Holding and Calum Chambers against Jurgen Klopp’s side.
While there wasn’t too much the two defenders could have done about Liverpool’s four goals, there is no doubt another defender is needed. But the search looks set to be coming to an end.
Sky Sports update
That’s because Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed they are ‘getting closer’ to signing Valencia’s Shkodran Mustafi for £28million.
After positive is that Solhekol claims that people in Germany say Mustafi is their best defender after Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng - something that was highlighted when the Arsenal target played his part in his nation's Euro 2016 campaign.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with the former Everton defender for weeks with the transfer fee seemingly being the sticking point. But, after conceding four goals in their first match of the campaign, it’s no wonder that Wenger is willing to spend big to get Mustafi.
Whether Wenger can finally get the transfer over the line remains to be seen, but this update certainly comes as good news for Arsenal fans.
