Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins warned the rest of League One that there is more to come from his side after their ninth win in the last 10 games took them to the top of the table.

The Iron made the breakthrough when striker Gary Hooper set up an easy chance for winger Martyn Woolford to convert from close range and Paul Hayes made it 2-0 in the 67th minute with a clinical finish from an opening created by Hooper, before skipper Izzy Iriekpen headed in a third.

Adkins said: "There is so much more we can get out of this team. Our passing was not up to the standard we want it to be in the first half but after the interval some of our football was a joy to watch."

He added: "It's great for our fans to see us at the top of the table.

"And it's something that doesn't bother us. Two years ago we went top of this division in January and went on to win the League One title.

"All we can do at the moment is simply take each match at a time because the only time that matters to be at the top is on the final day of the season."
