Published 1 Comments

Lionel Messi was in outstanding form for Barcelona on Wednesday night as the Catalan giants secured the Spanish Super Cup with a 3-0 second leg victory over Sevilla at the Camp Nou.

Arda Turan scored twice, while Messi grabbed the other, as Luis Enrique’s side recorded a convincing 5-0 aggregate victory.

Messi has now won 29 trophies with Barça - and this was the first he’d lifted while wearing the captain’s armband.

Scoring a header

Heading the ball isn’t Messi’s biggest strength but he’s still better than a lot of forwards in the air despite his diminutive stature.

This inch-perfect through ball

Even when Messi picks the ball up 40 yards from goal, the opposition are in big trouble.

Here, the South American wrong-footed his marker before playing an inch-perfect pass through the Sevilla back-line.

This run (including a nutmeg)

Messi dances his way past three Sevilla players, nutmegging the last one while running at speed.

Pure class.

Terrorising Diego González

Diego González will have nightmares about Messi tonight after being left with twisted blood by the Argentine.

Pretty much the whole crowd stood up and chanted ‘Messi!’ after this run.

Lifting the trophy

Wearing the captain’s armband in the absence of Andres Iniesta, this was a special moment for Messi.
