Arsene Wenger faces a race against the clock to bolster his options in the centre of defence with Gabriel and Per Mertesacker both sidelined with long-term injuries.
The Frenchman was forced to partner Calum Chambers with new signing Rob Holding against Liverpool at the Emirates last weekend and their lack of experience certainly showed throughout the seven-goal thriller.

Central defence has been area of concern for throughout the summer and yet the Gunners have failed to sign any defensive reinforcements in addition to Holding from Bolton Wanderers.
Fans are close to being fed-up with Wenger’s passive approach to landing key transfer targets – but he has responded to the outcry with a promise to Arsenal fans.

The Mirrors reports the 66-year-old is confident of agreeing a deal with Valencia to sign Germany international Shkodran Mustafi before the window closes on August 31.
When asked at his Thursday media conference if he will bring in another defender, Wenger said: “Yes.
“I believe it is better I don’t speak about any individual player.
"We are working very hard. You are absolutely convinced that I don’t want to spend the money, but I would like to reassure you that we are ready to spend the money we have.
While Arsenal fans may disagree, Wenger also claimed he may not have needed to bring in another defender if all of his back line personnel were available for selection.
“If Mertesacker and Gabriel had not been injured in pre-season, we would have been less under pressure to sign a defender, but once you are under pressure, everybody knows you are so it makes you weaker.
“We have been in the market a long time but if you look around in Europe, all my friends I call are all looking for centre-backs but they cannot find them.”
Only time will tell whether or not Wenger manages to push through a deal for a new defender, but his indication that the club is not done in the transfer market will at least provide a flicker of hope for the Gunners faithful.
