Owls swoop for Buxton

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of defender Lewis Buxton from Stoke.

The 24-year-old has joined the Owls on an initial one-month deal and will be eligible for the Steel City derby against Sheffield United this weekend.

"I'm very wary of the fact that we have five games in the short space of 14 days and I thought it was vital we increased our options at the back so I'm pleased to bring Lewis to the club," boss Brian Laws told the club's official website.

He added: "He joins us on an initial emergency loan for a month but we will look to extend that to a maximum period of 93 days.

"He has got a good pedigree having played over 100 games, most of them in the Championship, and he plays anywhere in the defence, which is a very important factor for us right now."
