Former Tottenham captain Gary Mabbutt expects Juande Ramos to remain as the club's manager despite their miserable Barclays Premier League form.

Tottenham have taken just two points from eight games, and pre-season hopes that they could challenge the established big four have been dashed. Sunday's 2-1 defeat by Stoke was a new low for Tottenham and leaves them rooted to the foot of the league.

"The board are going to be behind the manager," Mabbutt told BBC Radio Five Live.

"We are in dire straits at the moment.

"Two points from a possible 24 is the worst start to a season we have ever had.

"From the game you see there were a few positives but not enough to get all the Spurs fans waking up this morning with a smile on their faces."
