Excusing his first touch of the game, Paul Pogba looked impressive on his second Manchester United debut.
The Frenchman, who completed his record £89 million move from Juventus earlier this month, ranked first in shots, key passes and interceptions in United’s 2-0 win over Southampton, while only one player had more touches.
Pogba has a long way to go to justify his price tag but he made a good start. And one man who fully expects him to live up to the hype is Gianluigi Buffon.

The Juventus goalkeeper, who won four Serie A titles with Pogba, says he has “no doubts” that the 23-year-old will be a star in England and could even become the best player in the world.
He even went as far as to compare Pogba to two of football’s finest ever players, Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane.
“I have no doubts that Paul will be a success in the Premier League,” Buffon said, per the Mirror. “It may take some time to adapt but I’m certain he will do it, especially as he knows the club well which is important.
“I have seen him grow and improve during his time here, especially his attitude on the pitch and the way he works for all the team.
“Manchester United have signed a very good player. It’s not easy to compare him to greats of the past but he has many details of the games of both Platini and Zidane.”
With luck it is possible
High praise indeed. But then again, the Juve captain reckons his former teammate can become the world’s best.
“It’s possible,” Buffon added. “With luck it is possible. The kid is a tremendous warrior on the pitch but also has so much talent.
“His control of the ball and the way he can swiftly change the play from defence to attack is special – and for us it hurts to lose him. But of course the decision was with the directors and not down to the players.”
