Aston Villa's first season in the Championship was always going to be interesting.
The Villains were expected to go one of two ways, either bouncing straight back to the Premier League, or continuing their freefall.
Fortunately for fans of the Midlands outfit, the club have been making some statements of intent in the transfer market to prove that they are serious about getting back where they should be.

However, it's fair to say some of the names being linked were, perhaps just a tad, unrealistic.
In a turn for the bizarre, rumour had it that Didier Drogba - yes, the Didier Drogba, Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend - was about to sign on at Villa Park.
This seems like the right time for a quick reminder of the striker's record: 100 goals in 226 games during his first spell at Stamford Bridge.
Unsurprisingly, new owner Tony Xia, who is trying his absolute best to get his club taken seriously again, isn't entertaining the speculation.
Whoever started the rumour may have spotted that Roberto Di Matteo - the Chelsea manager when Drogba scored the winning penalty in the Champions League - is now in the hot seat at Villa Park. Then again, maybe they just saw someone who looks a bit like Drogba strutting around in Birmingham.
And the player himself has also taken to Twitter to laugh off the frankly bewildering rumours.
Maybe the Montreal Impact forward didn't fancy vying with Gabby Agbonlahor and Rudy Gustede for a starting spot, but wherever the rumour came from, we can confidently say this is a deal which isn't happening.
