Towards the end of last season, Mamadou Sakho was a fan favourite at Liverpool.

The defender scored during the incredible 4-3 comeback victory over Borussia Dortmund and then, just a few days later, scored in the Merseyside Derby against Everton.

Chants of “Sakho, Sakho, Sakho” echoed around Anfield as the Frenchman lapped up all the accolation.

However, his Liverpool career was soon to take a turn for the worse.

FIFA found him guilty of using a banned substance, which saw him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign - ultimately missing the Europa League final defeat. Although it was later ruled that the fat-burning substance shouldn’t have been in the banned list, the whole saga tarnished Sakho’s reputation.

Liverpool supporters would have been praying that with the arrival of the new season, Sakho could put the failed drugs test behind him and establish himself as a regular centre-back.

However, during the club’s tour of America, Sakho was sent home after reportedly breaking the rules on three occasions.

It led to doubts over his future at the club and it seems as though his time on Merseyside could be coming to an end. That's because, according to the Telegraph, Jurgen Klopp is prepared to send Sakho out on loan this summer.

The report states that the German is hoping the player can regain his fitness and form whilst at another club but this move surely show that Sakho isn’t in his plans this season.

Fan reaction

The news came as a massive shock to Liverpool fans who reacted angrily on Twitter.

The Reds lost 2-0 against Burnley last weekend with centre-backs Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan being heavily criticised for their performances.

However, there could be good news in the form of Joel Matip who is set to return from injury.

But allowing Sakho to leave the club will certainly be a brave decision by Klopp - and one that will seemingly upset the majority of the fanbase.
