With Zlatan Ibrahimovic now in Manchester, Edinson Cavani has the opportunity to finally become the main man at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Uruguay international was often deployed out wide by Laurent Blanc, PSG’s former head coach, in order to accommodate Zlatan during the previous two seasons.
But with both Blanc and Ibrahimovic now gone, Cavani started in the centre-forward position for PSG in the club’s second Ligue 1 match against Metz on Sunday evening - and to say it didn’t go well would be an understatement.

Cavani produced one of the worst individual performances you’re ever likely to see. Really.
Nothing went right for the 29-year-old - as you’ll see from the video below this page - who was named as the worst player of the match by Goal, despite the fact PSG recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory.
A woeful individual performance
Cavani was inexplicably left on the pitch for the full 90 minutes by PSG boss Unai Emery and didn’t play a part in any of the three goals scored on the night.
But he had so many opportunities to score. So many opportunities.
Even on the occasions he managed to time his runs well, in behind the defence, he’d inevitably fluff his lines with the shot.
His touches were often poor, he looked totally bereft of confidence and it’ll be astonishing if he starts in PSG’s next fixture against AS Monaco this weekend.

Is Cavani finished?
People are now debating whether Cavani is finished and fear the South American could be about to suffer a career nose-dive similar to that of Fernando Torres and Radamel Falcao.
However, Cavani has scored goals on a consistent basis in France - 81 in 148 appearances to date - and it would be a genuine surprise if he doesn’t do the same, playing upfront, this season.
But he’ll need to bounce back from this nightmarish performance sooner rather than later.
