The WWE was reportedly interesting in bringing back a number of former superstars recently when the brand split was on the horizon.
With two whole rosters to fill out between Raw and Smackdown Live - equating to five hours of television a week - the company knew they would need a bit more star power to get off on the strongest foot possible.
Names like Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy did the rounds, but a certain ECW legend and former WWE champion drew precious little attention.

Rob Van Dam has flirted with the company in recent years with sporadic runs here and there, but during an appearance on the Buzzard Wrestling Podcast, Mr. Monday Night revealed why he has not surfaced this time around.
"It wasn't a real good time for me and that affected the dollar amount it would take to make it worth my while and that was the last talk we had. And that probably left an impression on them, which I'm totally fine with."
WWE reached out to RVD back in October 2015 and it would appear his demands on that occasion have left a sour taste in their mouths.
It's a shame, because Van Dam is undoubtedly one of the most unique performers on the planet, even at 45-years-old.
There is little doubt the fans would have enjoyed his return, but unless Vince and co. reach out to RVD it doesn't look like happening.
Van Dam dethroned Cena back in 2006 for his one and only run with the WWE title alongside the ECW world title, but after he was suspended for 30 days as a result of a drug possession arrest he dropped both straps.
It's probable his relationship with the company has never been the same again. Still, would you love to see The Whole F'n Show back in the WWE?
