That is not to say Chelsea and Arsenal have not pursued several targets over the course of the summer window, but they certainly have not engaged in as much transfer activity as some would have expected.

With deadline day looming, Arsene Wenger and Antonio Conte face a race against time to snap up any last minute additions.
Both desperate to top up the squads they will use until at least January, Chelsea and Arsenal are set to go head to head for the same player in the dying days of the window.
Croatian media outlet Index reports that the London rivals will battle it out for the signature of Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic after his agent Miroslav Bicanic declared both clubs have expressed interest.
The Croatia international will likely command a fee of around £25.5 million as his Italian employers seek to raise funds after reportedly signing both Gabriel Barbosa and Joao Mario.
“It’s true, there are many options and we are talking about some big European clubs,” Bicanic said.
“I heard that Chelsea representatives are in Milan and that Arsenal are also prepared to sign him.
“Inter are pushing to sell to one of these two clubs who are prepared to pay a sum that satisfies all concerned.
“However, I am currently in Zagreb and there’s plenty of time before transfer deadline day.
“The matter is not so urgent and until Marcelo signs a contract with another club, he remains an Inter player.”
Juventus have also been linked with Brozovic after they had a bid for Paris Saint-Germain for Blaise Matuidi turned down.
However, it is believed Inter have no interest in selling the versatile midfielder to a domestic rival.
Conte and Wenger will be desperate to get their hands on Brozovic and bolster their options in the middle of the park.
The 23-year-old, who joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2015, has netted eight goals in 51 appearances for the club.
