A spokesperson has confirmed that the cousin of Dwyane Wade was shot on and killed on Friday while pushing a baby stroller in Chicago's South Side.

Nykea Aldridge, 32, was on her way to register her children for school after recently moving to the area when she was fatally gunned down, said Pastor Edward Jones.

The new Chicago Bulls superstar took to Twitter to post his anger at another senseless act of gun violence in Chicago and the United States of America.

He tweeted: "My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal."

According to Chicago Police, Aldridge was not the intended target of the attack - she was shot in the head and arm by two gunmen, who were targeting a third person; the baby was unharmed.

One of the two attackers was being questioned on Friday, said the police department.

On Friday afternoon, at Stroger Hospital, family members, including Wade's mom Jolinda, gathered in a circle, held hands and prayed for Aldridge.
