Arsene Wenger has finally decided he better start spending money this summer.
The Frenchman may have spent £30 million on Granit Xhaka at the start the transfer window but the signings of Rob Holding and Takuma Asano have done nothing to inspire Gooners.
But, with days remaining before the window slams shut, it appears Wenger and Arsenal have been extremely busy.
While the Gunners have been chasing Shkodran Mustafi for months, reports that suggested they were close to signing Lucas Perez came from nowhere.
But Arsenal supporters have heard it all before. They’ve read on too many occasions that they’re on the verge of signing a player, only for the deal to eventually fall through.
What they really need is Wenger to come out a give them some clarification on the new signings.
Well, after their 3-1 win over Watford, he’s done just that.
Wenger on Perez and Mustafi
When asked about the potential arrival of these two players, Wenger said: “They’ve both had medicals but we need to complete the paperwork.”
Wenger has reiterated his desire to keep his transfer dealings as secret as possible so the fact that he’s talking about the arrivals of Perez and Mustafi suggest that the deals are all but confirmed.
The deals are likely to cost in excess of £50 million with Mustafi commanding a £35 million fee, while Perez will arrive after his £17.1 million release clause was triggered.
After their convincing victory over Watford and the realisation that they’re about to sign two players, it’s been a very good day for Arsenal fans.
It’s just a wonder why Wenger has waited until the final few days of the two-month window to complete most of his business.
