Chelsea's bid to sign a new centre-back has been far from a simple one.
Despite having been linked with Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli over the course of the summer, the Blues still haven't made a much-needed defensive addition.
It's imperative that Antonio Conte reinforces his back line before the transfer window shuts considering how limited his options are, with John Terry's time at the top running out, Kurt Zouma injured and Gary Cahill in his thirties.

However, it would seem the former Italy manager has been hard at work trying to do just that.
According to Marca, Chelsea are set to sign €25 million-rated Fiorentina centre-back Marcos Alonso, renowned amongst English football fans for his stints at Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland.
No idea who I'm on about? Well, here's a compilation video of the 25-year-old's best moments in Serie A last season.
Signing Alonso would mark a successful transfer window for Conte having already lured N'Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi to Stamford Bridge for an approximate total of £65 million.
And he even admitted recently that he's been working tirelessly to sign more players in what is a "crazy" transfer window.
He said: "There isn't a specific number. The club and I are working very hard every day to find the right solution in transfer market because we all know that this transfer market is very crazy.
"I am very pleased to work with the players I have because the attitude and work-rate I see every day is fantastic.
"But we are working together to find the right solution to improve this squad."
Reports also suggest Conte has made a final decision on Cesc Fabregas' future at Chelsea, that being he has told the Spaniard to find a new club.
