Lucas Perez has finally arrived at Arsenal after completing a £17million deal from Deportivo La Coruna. He becomes the third major deal of the summer and is expected to provide serious competition for Olivier Giroud up front.
Fans of the Gunners may have been dreaming of a deal for Antoine Griezmann or Karim Benzema, but Arsene Wenger has opted to strengthen his options by signing a value-for-money target rather than breaking the bank for a big name.
As some of our more eager La Liga fans will know, Perez announced himself on the stage last season after scoring 17 goals for the mid-tabled Deportivo. With seven assists also to his name, it is with no surprise that a big European club has come calling.

But his performances in Spain appear to have been missed by one of Arsenal's self-proclaimed biggest fans. Piers Morgan, who utilises his huge Twitter following to spread his strong opinions on everything from Arsene Wenger's future to Stan Kroenke's ownership, obviously had something to say about this latest acquisition.
And while the Good Morning Britain presenter did wish the 27-year-old the very best, he could not help but have a tiny dig at the uncapped Spaniard, claiming he had "never heard" of him before he joined Arsenal.

He wrote: "Welcome Lucas Pérez. I'd never heard of you but wish you every success. #afc"
Of course, the comment inspired a host of reaction, most of which was wholly negative. He responded to one Twitter user, who suggested Morgan was not fit to comment on Arsenal's transfer policy if he didn't know who Perez was.
Morgan had a typically slick response:
The manager's thoughts
Arsenal fans can look forward to seeing Perez in action after the international break when Southampton travel to the Emirates on September 10. With the Saints struggling to get their season off the ground, it could be a good chance for Perez to fill his boots.
And Wenger appears to have every faith that his latest acquisition can provide more than just goals for the Gunners. He also appeared to forgive fans like Morgan, who may not have been aware of him before this speculation started.
“I’m happy because I believe he has the qualities to integrate into our team very well,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who combines well with partners, who can give a final ball and makes good runs.
“I think people will be a little bit surprised maybe, because nobody knows him very well. He has travelled a bit across Europe.
“He’s a late developer in this position because he has always played on the flanks. He’s got a good eye for goal and had an outstanding season last year in a team that didn’t create too many chances.
“I’m confident. He has pace, good technical levels, is a good finisher and he has the ingredients to be a success. It’s always a little bit of a gamble to come from one country to another, with different challenges, but I believe it was a gamble worth taking. I’m excited about that.”
