Despite what went down this past Monday Night on Raw, Kevin Owens was always the third-favourite to leave as the new WWE Universal Champion.
Following Finn Balor’s injury, which forced him to relinquish the title after capturing it at SummerSlam, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns were the favourites heading into the match, while Big Cass was also involved.
To everyone’s surprise, not only did Triple H return to the WWE since losing to Reigns at WrestleMania, but he hit a Pedigree on Rollins to allow Owens to take the pinfall win and the championship in the process.

It’s clear that the majority of the WWE fans are pleased with the decision that was made, and are now interested to see how Owens is booked from here as a World Champion, and the biggest heel in the company.
However, not everyone is happy with the outcome as rumours suggest there has been some backstage criticism regarding how Owens won the title.

According to DailyWrestlingNews.com, the feeling is that many felt his victory was tarnished as they thought that the finish didn’t do the match any justice.
It was a fantastic fatal four-way match and with so much hype heading into the main event, some stars backstage thought one Pedigree to Reigns and Rollins shouldn’t have been enough for Owens to take the win.
Not only that, many believe that the manner in which Owens won overshadowed the fact that he actually captured the gold itself.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer noted that Owens wouldn’t have dreamed of capturing a World Championship in the WWE by having Triple H effectively hand him the win, as it seems too similar to how The Game played a role in Rollins’ booking as the champion last year.
Although the criticism is there on how the match concluded, everyone in the match has been praised for the role they played.
Many thought the facial expressions of those involved made it feel like nobody knew how the match was going to end, most notably Owens’ shocked face when Triple H attacked Rollins.
However, it’s reported that everyone knew how the match was going to end, it’s just that they acted really well which played off brilliantly in the heat of the moment.
