The SummerSlam main event between Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton was billed as a match 15 years in the making, as both men broke into the business at the same time, but it was Lesnar who went on to become the megastar.
Despite Orton remaining loyal to the business he was born into, it seems like The Apex Predator may have secured himself a job for life with the WWE, according to Dave Meltzer.
The news is quite interesting considering Orton’s violations in the WWE have been well-documented in the past, although one of his ‘strikes’ has been removed in recent weeks following his change in attitude.

According to the Wrestling Observer, backstage personnel apparently can’t believe Vince McMahon gave the SummerSlam beat down the green light, and that’s the reason could be signed to the WWE for life.
The reason for this is that if Orton ever develops brain issues in the future, his family would have the right to sue the WWE, and could use the Lesnar footage to back this up, as well as the fact that the company had ordered him to lay there and get busted open by The Beast.
The difference in today’s wrestling business compared to the past is that stars today know more than ever in regards to concussions and brain injuries, and while the WWE have worked with organisations and even donated to them, they still went ahead with the angle.
Orton was never supposed to bleed as much as he did, he was told that Lesnar knew how to graze his elbow against Orton’s forehead which would then cause some bleeding.
However, as we saw, Lesnar hit two stiff forearms on his head which opened him up, and he required 10 staples.
The situation got so out of hand that even Chris Jericho got involved in an altercation with Lesnar backstage.
Despite it being a work, it seems like Lesnar may have indirectly helped Orton keep his WWE job for life.
