Lionel Messi is no longer the highest-rated player on FIFA and not everyone is happy with the fact Cristiano Ronaldo has leapfrogged the Barcelona superstar into pole position.
Messi is now rated 93 - still pretty decent - while Ronaldo now has a rating of 94, presumably because he scored 51 goals for Real Madrid last season, winning the Champions League in the process.
He also helped Portugal become European champions for the first time in the country’s history at Euro 2016.

However, it’s not Messi’s overall rating but rather his passing statistics on the new version of FIFA that has irked Gary Lineker.
The Match of the Day presenter, who is a huge fan of Messi, responded to a tweet which pointed out that West Ham’s Dimitri Payet now has a better rating for passing than arguably the greatest footballer of all time.
Lineker reacts to Messi's passing rating
@messi10stats posted on Twitter: “Payet: 87 Passing
Messi: 86 Passing
Payet is a better passer than Messi according to @EASPORTSFIFA
Joke of a game 😂.”
Lineker then quoted the tweet and added: “It's a game. It's not real. Messi is the best passer ever. They are taking the piss! Don't take it to heart.”
The former Barcelona striker also had a tongue-in-cheek moan that his own passing rating of 86 wasn’t high enough.
Messi is a better passer than Payet
While Payet has established his reputation as one of the world’s best passers over the past 12 months, even the Frenchman would probably concede that Messi is in a league of his own.
The Argentina international is, bizarrely, still a little underrated when it comes to his passing ability.
Few players in the history of the game have been able to produce passes as accurate and effective as the Barcelona maestro.
Never mind 86, 96 for passing probably would have been a fairer reflection of Messi’s unparalleled passing ability.
