Jamie Carragher involved in altercation with Joe Weller during Wembley Cup

Published 40 Comments

There are many reasons why Jamie Carragher will always be a hero in the eyes of Liverpool supporters - not least because he spent his entire career at Anfield.

The central defender would always give 100 per cent in each and every match. Fans of English football clubs never ask for any more than that.

Carragher also never shirked a challenge and wasn’t afraid to get into a scrap if required.

It’s clear that the Bootle-born defender still possesses the same fighter’s mentality, three years after retirement.

The 38-year-old, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, was involved in the ‘Wembley Cup’ on Friday night as one of the FIFA legends.

He found himself up against a load of YouTube stars - the majority of which he’d probably never heard of - but one of them managed to wind him up.

The lad in question was Joe Weller, whose team ‘Weller Wanderers’ were up against Spencer Owen’s ‘Spencer FC’ (another YouTuber, for those unaware).

On Thursday night, he sent Carragher a message on Twitter simply saying: “Hope ur ready”.

Carragher leaves Weller on the deck

The Liverpool icon didn’t reply on social media; instead, he did his talking on the pitch.

Carragher came through the back of Weller while the ball was in the air and left the YouTube celebrity on the floor.

Carragher accused of insulting the YouTuber

The camera then cut to the TV pundit, who was seen mouthing something at the YouTuber.

It’s alleged that he called Weller a “stupid pr*ck”.

The aftermath

Weller retweeted the video to his 810,000 followers after the match on Friday night and then asked if anyone knew Carragher’s phone number or address.

One suspects the poor lad’s still a bit upset.

Spencer FC won 7-4

For those interested, Weller Wanderers were beaten 7-4 by Spencer FC.

Arguably the best moment was THIS magnificent 30-yard free-kick by Carragher’s former Liverpool teammate Robbie Fowler.
