Messi is rated lower than Ronaldo.

Catalan media 'know' why Cristiano Ronaldo is rated higher than Lionel Messi on FIFA

When EA Sports released the ratings for FIFA17, it was always going to cause an uproar.

Yesterday, they announced that Cristiano Ronaldo would be rated a 94 and Lionel Messi a 93.

Many people would agree with those ratings, especially as Ronaldo won both the Champions League and European Championship this year, while he scored an incredible 51 goals in 48 appearances for Madrid last season.

Messi fans will point to the fact that Messi’s campaign wasn’t exactly a failure either. The Argentine managed 41 goals in all competitions and led Barcelona to the La Liga title. Not bad at all.

Nevertheless, EA Sports had to make a decision and they decided that Ronaldo deserved a higher rating.

Instead of just accepting it, some people have looked for reasons why Ronaldo has overtaken Messi as the highest rated player.

SPORT's theory

That includes Catalan newspaper SPORT. They have delved a little deeper and claim that the only reason Messi is the second best player in the game is because Barcelona have signed a deal with Konami.

Let us explain.

Konami are a Japanese video game company and the creators of Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) - the main rival to FIFA. As a result, Messi has been removed as the face of FIFA and features heavily in PES.

Therefore, SPORT think that EA have attempted to punish Barcelona and Messi as a result.

FC Barcelona v Real Betis Balompie - La Liga

Yeah, it’s certainly a far-fetched claim but the Catalans obviously feel hard done by.

One thing is for sure, it doesn’t matter who is rated higher out of Ronaldo and Messi because FIFA17 is bound to be an incredible game and people should just enjoy playing it rather than worrying about the ratings of players.
