It’s fair to say this summer’s transfer window was pretty epic.
Paul Pogba’s sensational return to Manchester United may have dominated the majority of the headlines but the most surprising move occurred on deadline day.
Of course, we’re talking about Chelsea resigning David Luiz to the tune of £34 million.
Luiz left Stamford Bridge just two years ago for a ridiculous £50 million, but Antonio Conte decided that the Brazilian was needed in west London this season.
While it’s fair to say football fans in England were pretty shocked at the deal, how did the players at Paris Saint-Germain react?
Well, thanks to PSG defender Thomas Meunier, we now know exactly what they think of the transfer.
Meunier on Luiz
"Everybody was surprised, I think," Meunier told Sky Sports, per the Evening Standard.
"Nobody expected such a scenario; I didn't expect that simply.
"He probably wanted to try again in England, you know how attractive it is to play in England.
"I wish him all the best."
The players of the French club may have been ’surprised’ but the club’s hierarchy must have been laughing all the way to the bank. They may have made a £16 million loss on Luiz over the two years, but they are well aware that the 29-year-old isn’t worth the fee Chelsea have just paid.
In fact, during PSG’s 3-1 defeat to Monaco last weekend saw Luiz produce a simply awful performance resulting in him being rated 2/10 by French newspaper L’Equipe.
Luiz on joining
Upon signing for Conte's side, Luiz spoke of his delight at returning to the Blues.
"Did I think I'd ever play here again? In football anything can happen. Everybody knows I have a feeling for this club," he said.
"Everybody knows that. Of course sometimes I could imagine that (I would come back to Chelsea).
"I am very happy to be here again. It is fantastic to have a second opportunity to play for this club, I love this club, that's why I'm here. Let's try to continue the nice history with a lot of joy and try to get success.
“It will be an amazing opportunity for me to show the fans again how I love this club and how I love to play for this club. I can't wait to wear the shirt and play in Stamford Bridge again."
