It’s still sinking into some fans that Kevin Owens is the WWE Universal Champion; it’s not something many expected with the likes of Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns on the same show.
At first, it was a surprise that Finn Balor won the title at SummerSlam, but Owens didn’t waste his opportunity in showing us why he deserved to be given such an honour.
Speaking to the Toronto Sun in great detail, Owens shared his love for the business and how numerous people in his life played a part in him achieving his dream, including long-time rival Sami Zayn.

When asked about who greeted him when he walked through the curtains as champions, he said: “There were a couple of people. The first one, I don’t want to just say who it is, but I think people can figure it out.
“It was very emotional because, in a lot of ways, we both achieved this. I don’t know how to describe that. It’s our title, in a way, if that makes any sense.

“It was a special moment to get to tell Vince McMahon that you’re not going to regret this and have him say, ‘I’m sure I won’t.’ It was just really something.
Owens also talked about the role Triple H has played in his career, and provided his thoughts on the comments made to him on a regular basis regarding him not having the typical WWE look Vince loves.
He continued: “Triple H is the reason I’m here. He’s the one who took a chance on me because a lot has been said about how I look and how I don’t have the typical WWE superstar look – even though I feel like over the past three or four years that whole stereotype has been destroyed.
“Still, it was something that people would always point to as to why they thought I wouldn’t make it in the WWE even if I got hired. Well, not only did I get hired but, last Monday, I won the Universal title and Triple H literally handed it to me.
“People can say what they want about that, but to me, it was a very special moment.”
There’s reportedly some criticism on how the match ended, with Triple H handing Owens the win. But it’s clear by his comments that Triple H’s actions alone were a huge honour for him and something nobody can take away from him.
