The news had been coming, but the WWE has officially announced that Alberto Del Rio has finished up with the company and has negotiated his release.
Mexico's Greatest Export had been serving a suspension for violating the WWE's Wellness Policy, and his partner - also WWE superstar - Paige had been doing the same.
However, it's long been speculated that Del Rio would exploit a loophole in his contract and decide to leave the company this year after being involved in a series of underwhelming storylines since beating John Cena clean for the U.S. title on his return last year.

The WWE already had a pretty thin roster and were reportedly on the lookout to bring back a host of former stars in light of their brand split.
Losing a three-time world champion and experienced hand like Del Rio will certainly hurt, but it can't be said that it wasn't unexpected either.
The WWE released an incredibly brief statement on their website that reads: "WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016."
Del Rio took to Twitter to address the news and insist that there is no bitterness between him and the company, whether the fans will believe that or not.
It has been rumoured in recent days that Paige is also seeking her exit from the company sparking rumours the couple may go and take on the independents together.
Paige is only 24-years-old though and could conceivably have another run in WWE down the line, several of them in fact. Del Rio, on the other hand, is 39 and we've likely seen him in the WWE ring for the final time.
