This weekend, CM Punk will have his first fight in the UFC against Mickey Gall. His first fight in the promotion is also coming on a pay-per-view, which is odd by normal standards as usually competitors would have a set number of smaller fights before making the pay-per-view jump.
Not Punk (also known as Phil Brooks), his experience on the pay-per-view stage from his time in WWE, as well as his stature and fan base means UFC has confidence in putting the 37-year-old on the main stage for his first bout despite his lack of a professional fighting record. Some people believe because of this, he doesn't deserve the main event spot
Yet during his time in WWE in his prime, Brooks had several main event spots at WrestleMania taken away from him because of returning big name stars, such as The Rock. Many people argue The Rock didn't deserve the spots because he wasn't a part of the company for the vast majority of the year like Punk was.

When he was asked if he was jealous of The Rock taking away his spotlight, Punk said to Carrlyn Bathe for The Wrestling Compadres Slamcast that he wasn't. However, he made it perfectly clear that this is different than him using his status to earn a fight on the UFC 203 card.
According to Wrestling Inc, he said: "Well, I think that big fat pay checks will definitely kind of mellow you out. Do you know what I mean? But yeah, maybe [jealous]. I know a lot of people draw the comparison, like, I was very outspoken about part-timers wrestling. You can draw the parallels, but it's kind of apples to turnips.
"Like, there [are] guys that are workhorses in professional wrestling that I still feel, every year, will get overlooked for the big stars and all that, but this, it's different in the aspect that, I don't think UFC has a cap on the number of fighters they have under contract and the number of active fighters is always, always changing.
"And you could say that there's a guy like Mickey, who wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for me, so jealous? I don't know, but maybe a little bit. I understand that.
"Was I jealous of Rock when he came back to main event two WrestleManias when I felt like I needed to main event one? I wasn't. I don't think jealous was the word to best describe that, so I don't know if I could use that same word in this situation."
The main difference between UFC and WWE is that one is scripted while the other isn't, but for both main event spots, you still have to earn your right to be there, whether it be through celebrity status or technical skill.
Punk has earned his fight to be on the main UFC 203 card this weekend through his celebrity status and fan base. However, he can further earn his right to stay in that position for pay-per-views to come if he beats Gall inside the octagon.
