Replacing a legend is never easy. Replacing a legend that just brought a Super Bowl trophy to town is pretty much impossible.
That is the task Trever Siemian faces as he takes over from Peyton Manning in Denver.
Siemian was a seventh-round pick by the Broncos in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Northwestern and expectations for him were set low. That is why Denver fans took to Twitter in their droves after Siemian led the Broncos to an opening day victory in a Super Bowl 50 rematch against the Carolina Panthers.
Here is a sample of the love Siemian is receiving in the Mile High city.
It is noteworthy that Siemian is being compared to a couple of quarterbacks that were not the highest rated quarterbacks to come out of college and yet had big careers as professionals.
Brett Favre is an interesting choice to compare, but Siemian does not have the cannon for an arm that Favre had (still has), while Siemian excels in other areas.
The obvious comparison, therefore, is Tom Brady. Brady was an unheralded sixth-round pick who showed zero athletic ability at the combine. He has only gone on to be in the discussion as one of the five greatest quarterbacks in the history of the sport
Even some of the talking heads in the media joined in. The comment from Michael Wilbon is to be expected seeing as he and Siemian share an alma mater.
Admittedly some took the love a little too far.
He is technically correct though...
