With Alberto Del Rio leaving the company yesterday, a top spot on Smackdown Live has opened up and eyes have immediately turned to NXT.
After Finn Balor made a successful, albeit brief, main roster debut, there is little doubt that the developmental brand can conjure up a star to fill any void on the main roster.
One name that has consistently cropped up in regards to a main roster debut is Samoa Joe.

The Samoan Submission Machine was a huge star and former world champion in TNA, but he has been a veteran building block in NXT having carried that brand's top strap too.
According to NODQ.com, the original plan for Joe was to join the main roster after his NXT Takeover showdown with Shinsuke Nakamura, although it appear as though a jaw injury suffered at the climax of that match may have thrown those ideas off track.
"In regards to Samoa Joe making his main roster debut, the original plan was for the loser of Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II to be brought up to the main roster.
"Based off WWE NXT programming, it could still be a while before we see that transition, as the company has setup a rematch between Joe and Nakamura at the last set of tapings. It remains to be seen when that match will take place."
Joe is the fearsome top heel the WWE badly needs on either Smackdown Live or Raw. While there has been no indication yet where the heavyweight might end up, one would think Del Rio's departure opens up a nice slot for him.
