This drew criticism from several WWE superstars including Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks and former WWE Champion Kurt Angle.
However it is now the turn of the Viper to take some cheap shots at McGregor and it came during the aftermath of CM Punk's UFC debut.
Orton was discussing Punk's debut loss to Mickey Gall in the first round and was responding to some fan tweets when his attentions turned to McGregor.
When asked if he would ever join UFC as a fighter, Orton had two very interesting statements to make.
A big shot by calling one of the most well known MMA fighters in the world by the wrong name, but naturally, the fans wanted more.
One fan would come straight out and ask if Orton could beat McGregor in a fight and the Viper simply responded with "who?"
It will now be interesting to see if and how McGregor responds, it is not like the Notorious to shy away from a challenge.
In the meantime, UFC fans still await the decision on McGregor's next fight and to find out if he will defend his Featherweight title or maybe challenge for something new.
