Jose Mourinho has put together a strong squad this summer and spent big in order to ensure Manchester United return to their best form and start competing for the Premier League title, once again.

However, while the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly have all arrived this summer, the Portuguese boss cannot solely rely on his summer signings to be the difference in the Red Devils having a good or bad campaign.

And while the former Chelsea boss is bound to make various changes to his starting XIs throughout the season, he is more than likely to come across a few players that may be surplus to his requirements.

Bastian Schweinsteiger is the first notable exclusion from Mourinho's plans, although the former Germany international vowed to stay at Old Trafford this summer, in order to fight for his place in the team.

However, United legend Paul Scholes has identified one player who could come under scrutiny over the course of the season, based on what the former midfielder saw in his performance against Feyenoord on Thursday evening.

United's shock 1-0 loss over in Holland got their Europa League campaign off to a less than ideal start, with Mourinho's perfect start to the campaign now scuppered by back-to-back defeats. And Scholes is worried Marcos Rojo could become a target of the opposition this season, after putting in a less than convincing against Feyenoord.

Rojo's fault

BT Sport Pundit, Paul Scholes said: "I think Rojo is a little bit at fault and he’s had a tough night as a player.

"You can tell, hasn’t played minutes this season. He’s really struggled.

"And I think, if I’m a Feyenoord player, I’m looking at a weakness of United, I think he’s a big weakness, Rojo.

“If I get the ball I’m just clipping the ball over his head all the time, making him run, and I think Feyenoord’s two wide players are the most dangerous players on the pitch."

Shaw return

Alternative left-back option Luke Shaw will return to the United squad for Sunday's visit to Watford, Mourinho has already confirmed, after Rojo was caught of position for Tonny Vilhena's winning goal.
