Without Jose Mourinho, it’s safe to assume that Zlatan Ibrahimovic would not be a Manchester United player right now.
Although testing himself in the Premier League had always been one of Zlatan’s career ambitions, it was Mourinho’s presence that convinced the Swedish striker to join the Red Devils over another English club this summer.
The 34-year-old has already made a huge impact at Old Trafford, both on the pitch and off the pitch.
He’s scored five goals in his first six appearances for the English giants while Mourinho revealed in an interview last month that the club’s youngsters have all looked up to the former PSG and AC Milan star from the moment he arrived at the club.
But what was Mourinho’s first impression when he met Ibrahimovic at Inter Milan back in 2008?
Mourinho reveals his first impression of Zlatan
The Portuguese coach answered that exact question in an interview with Heineken.
“My impression as a player was ‘wow’. He’s much better than I thought.
“[I discovered] he’s a guy that sells an image to the world that’s not him - he’s a very nice guy.”
Mourinho and Zlatan hit it off immediately
Mourinho was, of course, referring to the fact that Zlatan has built up a bad-boy reputation during his career.
Despite concerns that their huge personalities would clash at the San Siro, Ibrahimovic and Mourinho struck up an excellent working relationship during the one season they worked together in Italy.
They remained in contact after Zlatan left Inter for Barcelona and were finally reunited at Old Trafford ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.

During the Heineken interview, Mourinho also revealed his first impressions of Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, David de Gea and Anthony Martial.
