Round fifteen of the 2016 Formula One season got off to somewhat of a shaky start at the weekend after German driver Nico Hulkenberg crashed his Force India-Mercedes car into the pit wall following the start of the Singapore Grand Prix.
The incident meant that the safety car had to be deployed at the end of lap one, allowing race marshals the time to clear any debris scattered about the track as a result of the accident.
At the start of lap, three the drivers were then given the all-clear to resume racing, unfortunately for one marshal though, there had been a lapse in communication between the course clerk and his team, which meant that the all-clear had been given to the drivers prematurely, resulting in the marshal being caught short in the middle of the track as the race got back underway.

The video shows the marshal standing in the middle of the track - only to see the cars hurtling in his direction at incredibly high speed - before having to make a mad dash to the safety of the track side.
Eventual race winner Nico Rosberg was leading the pack at the time of the incident, and in his post-race interview, he commented: “I think just as we didn’t expect the re-start, he didn’t either because the re-start was somehow pretty abrupt. Luckily he got out of the way just about in time so it was OK.”

While the head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff added: “It was very dangerous. I’m really happy it ended up with nobody being hurt.”
Formula One's governing body 'The International Automobile Federation' (FIA) is said to be looking into the matter, with a full report to be released in due course.
A spokesman for the FIA told Autosport.com that safety procedures were not "properly executed" by the course clerk and their team.

Procedure for this kind of incident dictates that the course clerk must be given the all-clear for the safe removal of personnel and debris from the track three separate times before he has the authority to resume the race.
It is said that on this occasion, the marshal was sent back out onto the track to collect debris after the clerk had received his three calls of all clear.
