Joey Barton can’t keep himself out of the news at the moment.

The English midfielder was suspended for three weeks by Rangers on Monday after refusing to apologise to manager Mark Warburton following a dressing room bust-up following the 5-1 defeat to Celtic earlier this month.

The Sun understand that Barton won’t play for the Gers again following his latest transgression.

But that could be the least of the 34-year-old’s worries after it emerged on Tuesday that he’s under investigation following allegations that he placed money on the outcome of a Celtic match.

This news has even managed to overshadow a host of controversial comments that Barton has made in his new autobiography, which is titled ‘No Nonsense’.

You can bet your bottom dollar that, unlike some other footballer’s autobiographies, this one certainly won’t be dull of lacking in insight.

Barton criticises Allardyce and Hodgson

Barton has been undertaking his coaching badges over the past few years and clearly fancies himself as a potential top manager based on comments made in his new book.

The outspoken former Manchester City, Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers genuinely believes he could do a better job with the England national team than either Sam Allardyce or Roy Hodgson.

“Let’s look at who is doing the key roles,” he is quoted as saying in autobiography by the Daily Mail. “Sam Allardyce is England manager. Well, am I a better player than Sam? Well, yeah, of course. Do I believe, if Sam can get to be England manager then I can? Of course I do. What’s Sam got that I haven’t got?

“I look at Roy Hodgson in the England job and look at the way he handled it. Surely even you think you could have done a better job.”

Barton: Mark Hughes is a 'terrible' manager

Barton also believes he could do a better job than other coaches currently plying their trade in the Premier League, including his old boss at QPR, Mark Hughes.

“I look at other managers. Mark Hughes is a terrible manager,” he added. “Stoke are bottom of the league. I thought his people skills were really, really poor. My trade is football. All I’ve ever known is football. I watch as much football as anybody. I care about football as much as anybody.”

You can accuse Barton of many things, but being afraid to speak his mind certainly isn’t one of them.
