Samuel Eto'o dropped by Antalyaspor following racism row

Former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o has been dropped by Turkish side Antalyaspor after a racially-fuelled row on his Instagram account, according to The Sun.

This was confirmed by the club on Wednesday after comments posted by the player were not well received.

The veteran striker, who has played for top teams such as Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea, captained the Turkish side last season and scored an impressive 20 goals in the Super Lig.

However, his contribution last season were soon forgot about as speculation of a transfer to bitter rivals Besiktas left the mood with fans and club feeling rather sour.

Tensions have increased more as Antalyaspor current sit at the bottom of the league table, collecting only one point in four matches.

On his Instagram, Eto'o posted, along with an image of his accolades from his glittering career:

"Reminder - perhaps some people do not feel respect for me because I am black.

“But I am not going to come down from the level I have reached. I have been in this game for 18 years.”

Though his intentions of posting this message are unclear, he soon followed up by stating that the message was not directed to Antalyaspor's club chairman Ali Safak Ozturk.

However, the comments have not gone down with the club and Eto'o has been frozen out from the first team until stated otherwise according to a statement released on the club website.

The 35-year-old has certainly enjoyed a glistening career, with successful spells in Spain, Italy, and England.

During his time in Spain, the striker won three La Liga's, two Copa del Rey's, two Champions League's, and one Spanish Super Cup.

In Italy, with Inter Milan, he won the Serie A once, the Coppa Italia twice, the Supercoppa Italiana once, the Champions League once, and the FIFA Club World Cup one.
