Messi is expected to miss three weeks of action .

Watch Lionel Messi's reaction after worrying injury against Atletico

Published 3 Comments

It's a safe bet that Barcelona boss Luis Enrique won't be too worried about his side drawing 1-1 with Atletico Madrid.

There are now far bigger concerns at the Camp Nou than dropped points against Diego Simeone's men, as the result came at a heavy price.

Lionel Messi will miss the next three weeks after being forced off with a tear in his adductor. No-one likes to see the great man injured; even his opponents relish the opportunity of testing themselves against him.

Sergio Busquets was also substituted after a bout of flu, but Messi's fitness will be the real worry.

The Argentinian suddenly held up after easing away from two Atletico players, and it looks like he knew straight away that it wasn't good news.

Enrique took Messi off in the 58th minute, to be replaced by Arda Turan. Such is the number 10's love of the game, though, he looked devastated.

Take a look at his reaction:

Barca certainly missed him, too, as minutes later Angel Correa equalised for Atletico. It had all been going so well since Ivan Rakitic's goal had given the hosts a 1-0 lead, but their heads went the way of Messi's adductor.

City the target

In the end, the only positive was that Real Madrid also dropped two points, drawing with Villarreal at home. To be fair, this is hardly season-ending news for Barca, as they coped without their main man for two months last season - but it's hardly ideal.

FC Barcelona v Club Atletico de Madrid - La Liga

Messi could be back to face Manchester City in the Champions League, but Pep Guardiola is going to have mixed feelings about that. Yet, beating Barca isn't quite the same achievement when they're without Messi.

Judging by his reaction to being taken off, the superstar will no doubt be in a hurry to return, doing everything in his power to come back as soon as possible.

Can Barcelona cope without Messi again? Let us know in the comments.
