We've reached matchday six of the Premier League and the table is beginning to take the sort of shape many were expecting before a ball was even kicked in August.

The fight for the title is well underway and Pep Guardiola has already made his Manchester City side the team to beat with a 100% record so far.

However, who will be the closest team to challenge them is looking much harder to predict.

Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and last season's champions Leicester have all dropped points in games they weren't expected to - opening the door for Everton and Tottenham to make up the top three behind Man City.

But Liverpool have quietly made an impressive start to the season given their tough set of fixtures.

Wins away at the Emirates and Stamford Bridge, as well as a hard-fought point against Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs, represents a decent return for Jurgen Klopp's men.

And Robbie Savage believes the Reds have shown enough to suggest they can give Guardiola and co. a good run for their money this year.

"When you win at Arsenal, win at Chelsea and you’re disappointed with a point at Tottenham after playing them off the park, you know you’re on to something," Savage wrote in his column for The Sun.

"Obviously, Liverpool cannot afford more blips like the one that happened at Burnley last month, but I’m no longer sure they are simply top-four material.

"I believe they are genuine title contenders – perhaps even the likeliest challengers to early-season leaders Manchester City."

After replacing Brendan Rodgers almost a year ago, it looks like things are really starting to come together for Klopp at Anfield.

A full pre-season in charge and the opportunity to shift various deadweight members of the squad out of the club has given Klopp a tight-knit group who have started each game on the front foot.

But of all the new signings, Savage thinks the addition of Sadio Mane has made the crucial difference in Liverpool's potent attacking force.

Savage added: "Mane looks like a player who will grow in stature instead of being weighed down by his £34million price tag.

"Mane’s movement – dropping deep, pulling wide or hovering on the shoulder of the last defender – has made him difficult to track. Defenders don’t know whether to stay superglue-tight or drop off and let him roam.

"Already he has made a big difference to Liverpool: over the next seven months or so, he could prove THE difference between glory and a near-miss."
