Mamadou Sakho has endured a nightmarish past few months at Liverpool. The French defender has fallen from a first team regular to a player snubbed by the reserve team.
It’s been an unprecedented fall from favour that, unlike the Bastian Schweinsteiger saga at Old Trafford, appears to be a result of the player’s own actions.
The rift between manager and player was exemplified this week upon Sakho’s controversial Snapchat comments and it appears, at last, Jurgen Klopp has responded.

Fall from favour
Last season saw the 26-year-old amass an impressive 33 appearances and even garner two goals in all competitions. Even the move from Brendan Rodgers to Klopp didn’t seem to effect his playing time.
This faith from the German was exemplified by his decision to start Sakho in his first cup final as Liverpool boss, the climax of the 2016 League Cup.
However, since the curtains fell on 2015-16, Sakho’s Anfield tenure has taken a jarring and unexpected turn for the worse.
Most notably, the ex-PSG centre-back was infamously sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour of America. At first it was believed to be a result of an injury update, but it is has since emerged that it was a consequence of a breach in club conduct. Three times over no less.
However, just to augment his fall from grace, Sakho caused a stir this week by turning to Snapchat as a way of providing his side of the story.
The 26-year-old stated: “Now it’s 3 weeks since I am fit to play games.
“I finish all my rehabilitation work. They don’t want me to play also with second team lol! Why I don’t know. “Still working hard like Scouse Soldier! Still not talking cos I want speak on pitch.. I will speak soon for the people who support me and don’t understand the situation.
“Still happy to live in my 'Liverpool Country' with my family, hope to have chance to play soon to give my best like I try to do always.I accept my situation but I can’t accept the lie… The fans deserve to know the true! Thanks for your support.”
The German tactician has responded yet again to issues surrounding Sakho though and this time regarding the now infamous Snapchat comments. It’s fair to say the defender hasn’t done himself any favours.
Klopp’s press conference response can be seen below:
While the ex-Borussia Dortmund boss largely skates around the details, he does accentuate the negativity of the saga. After all, there can be little doubting the erratic nature of Sakho’s early morning comments.
However Klopp truly reacts though, it’s becoming increasingly apparent that Sakho and Liverpool will soon be headed their separate ways.
