Neymar shows his class by handing shirt to disabled Sporting Gijon fan

Published 2 Comments

Barcelona chalked up their fourth win of the La Liga season with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Sporting Gijon at El Molinon on Saturday evening.

The Catalans were at their devastating best as they swept aside their hosts with consummate ease to secure second position on the league table behind Real Madrid.

With Lionel Messi looking on from the sideline, his world-class colleagues made his absence barely noticeable throughout what can only be described as a five-star performance against a ten-man Sporting outfit.

Luis Suarez, Rafinha, Arda Turan and Neymar all got their names on the scoresheet, with the latter contributing a man-of-the-match display in northern Spain.

But in addition to his magnificent brace, the Brazilian has produced a classy post-match gesture that would outshine all he did over the 90 minutes.

Shortly after the referee blew the final whistle, Neymar jogged over to a Gijon fan in the disabled supporters section of the ground.

The former Santos star vaulted over the advertising boards to hand the young fan his match shirt before the pair embraced each other.

It just goes to show Neymar is eager to live up to the Barcelona motto "mes que un club” – more than a club – and make an effort beyond his footballing duties, too.

The 24-year-old has well and truly fulfilled the enormous expectation placed on him since arriving at the Nou Camp from his boyhood club in May 2013.

In three full seasons, he has won two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, the Supercopa de Espana, UEFA Champions League and Club World Cup.

The Brazil international has played in a significant role in Barcelona’s recent success, racking up 92 goals with likely plenty more to come.

However, irrespective of the magic Neymar pulls off on the pitch, it is touching moments of generosity like produced on the weekend that will make him a truly great player.
