Cristiano Ronaldo turns 32 in February but that doesn’t mean the Real Madrid superstar is too old to have a paddy every now and again.

Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Las Palmas in Gran Canaria was a frustrating match for the three-time Ballon d’Or winner, who raised eyebrows for his ‘angry’ reaction when Karim Benzema scored to put Madrid 2-1 ahead in the second half.

Five minutes later and Zinedine Zidane substituted Ronaldo, to the surprise of just about everybody, and the Portuguese star clearly wasn’t happy with the decision. (Scroll down this page to watch the video).

Ronaldo struggled to hide his disappointment and bemusement - although he didn’t help himself by muttering various words under his breath.

The world-class forward couldn’t even look at Zidane as he made his way to the dugout - although he did shake his manager’s hand - and then appeared to exchange some angry words with another member of the Real Madrid coaching staff before taking a seat on the bench.

Zidane explains why he subbed Ronaldo

After the match, Zidane explained that he took Ronaldo off with Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund in mind.

However, after Sergio Araujo scored a late equaliser for Las Palmas, the Frenchman must have regretted taking Ronaldo off.

"We're playing on Tuesday and he has to rest from time to time,” Zidane told reporters, per AS. “He was playing well, but I have to choose and tonight I changed him thinking about Tuesday.

Asked about Ronaldo’s reaction, Zidane added: "Of course he wants to stay on the pitch, but I have to think about my players and in particular Cristiano. We've got a game on Tuesday and he needs to come off occasionally.”
