It’s not been a good few weeks for Gary Cahill, so it’s no surprise that Chelsea’s new manager Antonio Conte is considering axing the English centre-back.
Cahill cost his side against the Gunners. His calamitous back-pass was capitalised on by Alexis Sanchez, who left Thibaut Courtois no chance with his well-executed finish.
But this isn’t the first major error that Cahill has made this month.
A Chelsea fan - the well-followed @Conteholic on Twitter - has posted a compilation video of the centre-back’s worst moments from the season so far.
Video: Gary Cahill's recent mistakes
Although we’re less than two months into the 2016-17 campaign, Cahill has four terrible gaffes already.
His first came during the 2-2 draw against Swansea City earlier this month.
Cahill took a poor first touch and was robbed by Leroy Fer, who converted past Courtois to put the Swans 2-1 up.
Five days later and another mistake from Cahill - albeit not quite as bad as the first.
Cahill’s poor clearance fell straight to Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson, who produced a magnificent strike to beat Courtois.
Four days on, against Leicester City in the League Cup, and Cahill was at it again.
A dreadful touch saw him lose possession to Shinji Okazaki, whose touch allowed the rapid Ahmed Musa to burst into the Chelsea box. However, on this occasion, Cahill was bailed out by his defensive partner, David Luiz.
And finally, there was Cahill’s mistake against Arsenal.
Cahill could be dropped for Chelsea's next match
Chelsea fans might have expected these errors from Luiz, but Cahill has usually been a reliable figure at the back for the Blues.
The 30-year-old is clearly suffering a crisis of confidence and it won’t come as a shock if he finds himself out of the starting XI for Saturday’s match against Hull City.
