SmackDown LIVE could be in a tricky position following No Mercy next month with two of their top stars set to leave WWE TV.

Both Dean Ambrose and John Cena are believed to be taking breaks from the company in order to fulfill TV responsibilities, leaving SmackDown LIVE very short of genuine title contenders.

Ambrose is set to start filming for WWE's latest movie, whilst Cena will be leaving to film the second series of American Grit, which is likely to keep him away from the ring until later this year.

With both Ambrose and Cena leaving, it's looking almost certain that Styles will retain the WWE Championship at No Mercy during their triple threat match, but it raises the question, who is next for AJ Styles?

Well, according to NoDQ, The Phenomenal One could be feuding with either Dolph Ziggler or Randy Orton in the aftermath of No Mercy.

With Ambrose and Cena the two top babyfaces currently on SmackDown LIVE, it means Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan will have to search a bit further down the ladder, and that's where you find Ziggler and Orton.

The Showoff is currently feuding for the Intercontinental Championship with The Miz, whilst Orton is feuding with Bray Wyatt, but one of them could be promoted to the title picture.

Both have been in that scenario before, with Ziggler feuding with Ambrose earlier this year, so it's a role that both could occupy with ease.

Dove Awards Press Conference

According to the same report, it's looking more likely that it will be Orton feuding with AJ Styles next, meaning that could be the next title-running feud.

Orton has hinted in the past about feuding with the former TNA star, and with Vince McMahon reportedly high on the Viper right now, it would be the logical choice.

It sets up a potential storyline of Styles declaring the fact he's beaten everyone on the roster, only for Orton to make his way down to the ring and declare himself as the new number-one contender.
