What are badges in NBA 2K?

In the NBA 2K series, badges are a gameplay element and feature that were first introduced in NBA 2K15. They act similarly to Signature Skills, regulating player personalities and offering players certain unique skills and benefits.

They take the role of Signature Skills. They are used by WNBA players, NBA players, MyPLAYERS, and MyTEAM Players in NBA 2K21.

What are the new and updated NBA 2K23 Badges?

Let's look at the new and updated NBA 2K23 badges, then we'll take you through the new tiered system and how it will work.

A few new badges have also been introduced to the game, along with updates to several existing badges. Some of them may resemble the badges that were taken away.

The Bully badge seems to be a favourite; see the whole list of them below:

Shooting:

  • Agent 3 - Ability to make challenging 3-point attempts while dribbling
  • Middy Magician - Increased capacity to score mid-range jumpers like MJ off the bounce or off of the post.
  • Amped - Reduces the penalty for the shooting characteristic when tired and when moving too much before firing.
  • Claymore - The longer a spot-up shooter stands still before the shooting, the more likely they are to knock down catch-and-shoot jumpers.
  • Comeback Kid - Improved ability to make perimeter jump shots while a game is losing.
  • Hand Down Man Down - If the opponent is unable to get a hand in the face, it makes an outside shooter even more lethal.
  • Space Creator - Previously a Playmaking badge, it now improves the ability to make hop shots and stepback jumpers and makes opponents trip more frequently.
  • Limitless Range - Enhancing shooters' effectiveness with every shot from far 3PT range.

  • Work Horse: The Pat Bev badge that improves your stamina to play tenacious defence and hustle down 50/50 balls.
  • Handle the ball away from ball handlers and strip players as they assemble for shoots with the Gary Payton-inspired glove.
  • Challenger: Increases the efficiency of matches using perimeter shots.

Playmaking:

  • Killer Combos - Size-up dribble manoeuvres increase a dribbler's efficacy.
  • Clamp breaker Ball handlers can win more games by using a clamp breaker. One-on-one physical altercations.
  • Vice Grip - Enhances ball security right away following a rebound, catch, or ball pickup.
  • Mismatch expert - Formerly a shooting badge, the Mismatch Expert badge now assists smaller guards in taking down taller defenders when they are mismatched 1-on-1.

Some badges were removed after the gameplay enhancement Courtside Report. Things like Hot Zone Hunter and Lucky #7 were removed from the game. Players won't enjoy the loss of Limitless Spot-Up either.

Keep in mind that each of the NBA 2K23 Badges listed above has challenge criteria that, when satisfied, enable the badge to be added to a core badge space.

The badges that were all taken off this year are listed below:

  • Bullet Passer
  • Chef
  • Defensive Leader
  • Downhill
  • Glue Hands
  • Hook Specialist
  • Hot Zone Hunter
  • Limitless Spot-Up
  • Lucky #7
  • Set Shooter, Sniper
  • Stop and Go

As you can see, the majority of the NBA 2K23 badges that were removed have to do with the shooting, so prepare ready for a whole new meta.

NBA 2K23 Badge tiers

The NBA 2K23 Badges will undergo some substantial adjustments. The new Tier System that has been implemented to assist balance the game is arguably the most noticeable.

According to 2K, this is the MyPLAYER-building modification that will have the most impact. The NBA 2K23 Badges will operate on a tiered badge system this year. Each attribute category has sixteen badges: eight in Tier 1, four in Tier 2, and four in Tier 3.
