Gunther was set to be "buried" by Vince McMahon, but is now viewed as a future WWE main eventer by Triple H.

After the July 4 episode of Raw, rumours suggested that Vince had massively soured on Gunther, who he'd only brought up to the main roster three months prior.

And now, Gunther should not be fearing for his place in WWE, with it being reported that Triple H is a big fan of the Austrian and sees him as a top star.

What is Triple H planning for Gunther?

Gunther hasn't been pinned since Triple H came to power in WWE in July, and it seems likely that the Austrian is going to become one of The Game's featured stars.

In fact, that's been confirmed by WrestleVotes, who tells GiveMeSport that Triple H sees the Intercontinental Champion as someone that can main event major WWE shows.

Gunther is going to be around for a long time. He's got real potential as a heel, and he's going be here for 10/12 years. He's going to open some shows, he's going to close some shows, but he's just going to be a solid match every night. That's what Hunters sees in him right now

WrestleVotes then explained that Gunther's match with Sheamus at Clash at the Castle, arguably WWE's best match of 2022, helped a lot with the perception of the 35-year-old.

Hunter likes him and he's going to give him a shot. People are starting to understand what he is and the Clash at the Castle deal with Sheamus helped.

This can only be seen as good news for Gunther, who was once described as "the perfect wrestler" by former NXT General Manager William Regal.

How did Vince McMahon initially feel about Gunther?

Gunther was brought to WWE's main roster by Vince McMahon, and almost immediately given the Intercontinental Champion.

On the face of things, it seems like Vince loved Gunther, and while that may be how things started, the ex-CEO ended up souring on him just before his retirement.

WrestleVotes claims that the July 4 Raw show was a turning point for Vince, with the 77-year-old souring on Gunther following his segment with R-Truth, even considering sending him back to NXT.

I know that Vince McMahon just didn't like what he saw on Raw and was over him, like legitimately wanted to bury him, go back to NXT, that type of stuff.

Things worked out well for Gunther though, as Vince retired just two weeks after planning to "bury" Gunther, allowing Triple H to swoop in and get things back on track.
