Rangers are contemplating making an ‘official approach’ for Queens Park Rangers manager Michael Beale, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 42-year-old has been identified as the frontrunner to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the Ibrox dugout after he was relieved of his duties.

What is the latest news involving Beale?

Football Insider previously claimed that Beale was at the top of Rangers’ wish list following their underwhelming start to the season both domestically and in Europe under van Bronckhorst.

The Daily Record have since revealed that QPR will not stand in the English tactician’s way if he does wish to depart Loftus Road.

And talkSPORT then claimed that the west London outfit are even now ‘expecting’ Beale to depart the club despite only being appointed as their manager over the summer.

Beale spent nearly three years as Rangers’ assistant manager under Steven Gerrard between 2018 and 2021.

What has Jones said about Beale?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “They want to talk to Michael Beale about this, and I think it'll move forward quite fast in terms of that happening. They're looking now at making an official approach, it might even happen today, to be honest.

“So, it's worth keeping an eye on how fast this does move forward. Obviously, Beale did turn down Wolves not very long ago, but from what I'm hearing, there's something about Rangers that feels a little bit different, and he might find it a little more difficult to turn down if this was to actually come to him.

“Also, in the back of his mind, while he does want to be loyal, you've got to be careful about the sorts of jobs that you turn down. QPR had done well, this season, they've taken a bit of a dive recently, though, and it doesn't take that long for things to turn around, and you could be fired from your job already.

“So, I think he just wants to make sure that he doesn't act stubbornly over this and just turn down offers for the sake of it just because he turned down Wolves. So, I do think that Beale is one to look out for at the moment.”

Would Beale be a good appointment?

Gerrard quite remarkably revealed that Beale was the ‘expert’ when it came to his tactical approach and that it would take him years to become as effective on the training pitch.

Beale’s reputation saw QPR take a gamble on him back in June, and since then, he has won nine and drawn four of his 21 Championship games at the helm.

His appointment as Rangers manager would undoubtedly be a risk, but the Glasgow giants’ hierarchy will surely know his credentials and ability better than anyone else.
