Cazorla is one of Arsenal's star players when he can stay fit.

Santi Cazorla yet to be offered new deal by Arsenal

Arsenal can count themselves lucky to have a player like Santi Cazorla in their ranks.

For all his injury problems, the Spain international is one of perhaps only a handful of players at the Emirates who can claim to be genuinely top-drawer on his day.

Yet, the amount of time he spends on the sidelines does seem to be holding him back. While the club continue to negotiate new contracts for main men Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, Cazorla has provided a surprising update on his own situation.

Bizarrely, the midfielder hasn't even been offered a new deal, despite insisting he wants to stay.

That's what he has told Cadena SER, at least, and it should raise more than a few eyebrows among Arsenal fans.

"I hope I can stay here and continue to play," he said.

No news

Asked whether there was a new contract extension on the table, he responded:

"No. I don't have any news from the club in that respect. My focus now is on playing and to be able to enjoy playing football following a season when I had lots of [injury] problems."

"I'm in a great club and I'm playing minutes which is what I want. If I didn't play, then I would consider leaving but that is not the case," he added.

What's most concerning is that the 31-year-old is in his final year at the club unless he signs an extension. That puts him in the same boat as Arsene Wenger, but while his manager's situation seems to be at the forefront of everyone's minds, Cazorla is going under the radar.

The former Villarreal man is in his fifth campaign in north London, but he featured just 15 times in the Premier League last season.
