After breaking the world transfer record this summer, everything Paul Pogba did on the pitch was always going to be scrutinised for months to come.
Whether it’s a bad touch, an awful pass or a terrible finish, fans of rival clubs are always going to pick up on it if you’re the most expensive player of all-time.
For Pogba, it was the latter during their clash against Stoke City on Sunday afternoon with him missing a gilt-edged opportunity from inside the box.
Ok, it wasn’t the worst miss in the world but you’d expect a midfielder worth £89 million is capable of giving his side the lead when given that sort of opportunity.
What made it worse was the fact his teammates had linked up beautifully before hand.
Juan Mata played a ball to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s feet who performed a brilliant little flick into the path of Jesse Lingard.
Lingard then played a lovely first-time pass to Pogba who would surely round off a brilliant team move. However, the former Juventus man dragged his shot wide with the goal gaping. It was a really poor finish and it ruined what would have been a fantastically worked goal.
Take a look at his finish below:
But that wasn’t the only chance Pogba missed during the first-half. Just moments later, he was totally unmarked from a corner but could only head wide.
Although United broke the bank to capture Pogba this summer, goalscoring is maybe the area of his game that he needs to improve.
During his four years in Italy, he only managed 28 league goals, failing to hit double figures in each of Juventus’ four title-winning campaigns.
However, the Frenchman did open his United account last weekend when he scored a header during their 4-1 victory over champions Leicester at Old Trafford.
