Mario Balotelli looks like a player reborn after leaving behind Liverpool for Nice this summer.
The 26-year-old has six goals in his first five appearances for the French side in what has been an excellent start to the latest chapter of a controversial career.
However, although things have started well at his new club, it wasn't always clear that Balotelli would join Nice this summer. Indeed, several teams were linked to his signature before the window closed. So, what exactly was it that attracted the Italian to the Ligue 1 side? The player himself has given a very honest answer today.
"At the start, I chose Nice for the climate," the former Manchester City striker told Sky Italia, via Sky Sports.
"I wanted to be in a relaxing but beautiful place, where it's difficult to get out the wrong side of the bed."
Those familiar with Balotelli's quirky character won't be too surprised to hear the forward admit that, with his career hanging in the balance this summer, the main factor swaying him toward a move to Nice was the promise of good weather.
What that says about Manchester, Liverpool and Milan, is up for interpretation.
It wasn't just the wall to wall sunshine that convinced Balotelli, however.
"The other reason I chose Nice is because there's a decent group of young players. We're all about the same age."
Even that, though, throws up the possibility that the former Liverpool man has one eye on socialising.
Perhaps that is a little unfair considering the way the past month has gone.
Balotelli's Nice career began with two goals on his debut, and it has gone from strength to strength since.
The ex-AC Milan star may have been sent off at the weekend, but it came after grabbing yet another goal for his new club.
And, speaking in the same interview, Balotelli sounds far more humble and grounded than he has appeared to be over the past few years.
"It was right not to select me because I didn't deserve it," Balotelli said of missing out on selection for the Italian national side.
"It's better for Ventura to not select me this time around because when I return, I want to be at my best."
